October 16, 2024: A Bittersweet Goodbye
Today marks the end of an incredible journey in Indonesia. Leaving feels surreal and is, without a doubt, the hardest part of the entire trip. For the past month, Palembang became my second home—its places, the university, the school, and most importantly, its people, all weaving their way into my heart.
Saying goodbye is especially hard because I don’t know when, or if, I’ll see everyone again. I am parting not only from friends but from a community that embraced me as family. Our neighbors at the guesthouse from Malaysia, the teachers from CKB and UNSRI, our buddies, our supervisors, and even the Dean—they all played a part in making our experience unforgettable.
Each goodbye felt like leaving behind a piece of myself, from the laughter we shared over meals to the support we gave each other. I take with me not only memories but lessons learned, bonds formed, and a deep appreciation for the culture and kindness I found here.
Palembang will forever hold a special place in my heart. These memories and friendships will be cherished always, and even as we return home, a part of me will always remain here in Indonesia.
