Observations at CKB: Adapting to New Teaching Styles

Our first day at Cipta Kreatif Bangsa (CKB) was filled with new experiences. Each morning, we rotated through different tasks, from greeting students as they arrived to joining in opening routines and assisting in the Aula (main hall). As SEA teachers, we were each assigned to various classrooms, allowing us to experience different teaching styles and grade levels every day.

One of our first observations was how remarkably independent the students are at CKB. We also noticed differences in teaching methods: lessons here are brief and fast-paced, students have three subjects each day, with three worksheets to complete.

Communication was challenging initially due to the language barrier. Some students quickly adapted to our presence, while others were more reserved. They often tried to communicate with us, but realizing we didn’t understand Bahasa, they would simply smile and move on. As days passed, we adjusted by using non-verbal cues and simple phrases, and the students became more comfortable around us.
We also had the chance to observe a lesson planning session. Every two weeks, teachers gather to brainstorm activities and then split into grade-level groups to plan weekly lessons, focusing on specific learning competencies. Their collaborative approach ensures that each activity aligns with curriculum and learning goals.
