Each weekend, our buddies took us around Palembang to experience the rich culture and history of Indonesia. It was exciting to discover similarities between Indonesia and the Philippines—like the “LRT.” Seeing Palembang’s LRT made me smile, realizing that we share this familiar transit system name in both countries.

One highlight was visiting the iconic Ampera Bridge, a stunning landmark that spans the Musi River and represents the heart of Palembang. We also explored the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum, where we learned about Palembang’s fascinating history and saw artifacts that reflected its cultural heritage.

A particularly memorable experience was our trip to Kemaro Island. We took a boat ride along the Musi River—a little nerve-wracking since we didn’t have life vests, and the boat felt wobbly at first! But thanks to our friendly boat driver, we made it safely. Once on the island, Sir Ilham shared the legendary story of Kemaro Island's origins, giving us insight into local folklore. We bought souvenirs like refrigerator magnets and beaded bags as keepsakes and gifts for our professors back home. On our way back, we captured a photo on the boat with the Ampera Bridge in the background, symbolizing the connection we felt between culture and nature.

We also visited the Jakabaring Sports Center and enjoyed a small picnic at G-Walk with CKB teachers. Riding the Ferris wheel was a bit nerve-racking for me because of the height, but the view was worth it! At Kambang Iwak, both day and night, we experienced the lively atmosphere with our buddies and Ms. Via from CKB. It was also the perfect spot to pick up souvenirs (pasalubong) for our families in the Philippines.
Each outing brought us closer to Palembang, giving us unforgettable moments that we will cherish forever.
